Tips to Burning Your Dixie Grace Candles
Here at Dixie Grace Candle Co. we use a wooden wick instead of the more common cotton or hemp wicks. Here are a few tips for getting the most out of your DGCCo candles:
.
1. The very first time you light the candle, be sure to light the whole wick across length wise. Don't just light one corner and wait for it to burn itself across. This will help to maintain the wick and give you an even burn.
.
2. Remember, these wicks are made of wood. Sometimes the wick takes a few seconds to light (usually only the first time) but please be patient. Things like temperature in your home and humidity levels can affect the wooden wick.
.
3. Be sure to light your candle only when you have enough time to let it burn completely and evenly across the top (this can take 30-60 min). If you don't, your candle will start to "burrow" down the middle leaving a lot of wasted wax around the edges. Ain't nobody got time for that!
.
4. Lastly, even though these are wooden wicks, they do require trimming. After burning the candle a time or two, you'll notice the wick start to look frayed and frazzled, as pictured above. When this happens, using your fingers, GENTLY break off the frayed edges of the wick and throw them away. You should be left with a clean, even wick. We recommend doing this prior to every light. Doing this will help to give you an even burn and reduce black smoke.
